Notre Dame re- revisited & some notes on printing photos
|
|
I often take digital photos and view them on computer monitors, but for one, I very rarely print the photos to put on a physical album. This weekend, I have attempted to print out some 200 plus photos and here is what I have to report:
Before actually printing the photos I edited them in Photoshop, mainly to boost the colours, adjust contrast and sharpening. Have you guys realised it too, but it annoys me to no end that:
1. What I see in Photoshop is different than what I see in other Windows software e.g. Image Viewer and Picasa 2.
2. What I see on my monitor is absolutely different than what I see on other monitors - especially the one at work. You see, my monitor at home is relatively well calibrated (see http://www.northlight-images.co.uk/viewing.html for monitor calibration) but the one at work is definitely set too dark. Comparing seeing my photos on a friend's monitor would also show discrepancies in saturation, contrast and brightness.
3. What I see on my monitor is different than what the print end up to be. Although the photos still look good, it doesn't have the same tones, colours and vibrancy as how the images are seen on monitor ... and
4. I tried two different shops - Boots and Tesco, for developing the photos and even between them there are differences.
For now, although at Boots the cost is slightly more expensive than Tesco, the paper quality and image quality is better than Tesco. However, the self-service machine they use in Tesco is by far faster and more intuitive to use. Don't forget the photos are cheaper in Tescos too.
Any tips in monitor calibration or printing? Please share!
ps
I use the adobe RGB setting on my camera as the file type.

Notre Dame
|
|
Taken during our visit to Paris last October, I have finally understood Photoshop enough to better edit my photos to slightly more acceptable levels
This picture was taken early morning, marking the beginning of my day-long journey on foot along the river Seine. Looking back at it now, our holiday in Paris seemed all but a very pleasant dream.

Portrait of a photographer

Just a picture of a friend of mine who shadows my interest in photography. Taken at the Coventry Memorial Park one cold morning while the sun is still low angled. Looking forward to future meet ups!

Despite wearing warm clothing, the winter weather has made all of our family members unwell with flu. Amar was affected the worst, with coughs and sneezes going on for weeks. Thankfully, he's much better recently.

Birthday Wish
|
|
Happy birthday Dina & (sorry, I know it's "a bit" early...) Arep! Here's one wishing you two a happy and prosperous future.
Do enjoy your birthdays & may both of you get what you each wish for
ps - please pardon my beginner Photoshop effort! Terrible & garish, I know - it's the best I could do in the limited time.

"Swings at Sunset"

A picture of my 1 year old Amar, on the swings one chilly winter day. The weather was so cold that even Amar's favourite swing could not make him look back longingly at the warmth of his stroller.

Freedom
|

There is nothing in the world like the freedom of a child - free from any responsibility, guilt or burden.
Picture of my 3 year old Sarah, running freely one sunny day at the Coventry Memorial Park.
