Tripod?
|
|
Guys, I'm thinking of getting on of these: a Slik 330DX Tripod. What do you guys think?
| Quote: | The latest metal, SLIK’s exclusive A.M.T. super titanium alloy legs make the PRO 330 DX lighter weight than similar tripods, but with more rigidity for a more secure hold on your camera. It folds down small to just 23.5 inches and weighs just 3.5 pounds making this tripod great for traveling.
The emphasis on the PRO 300 DX is ease of use. Any tripod should be easy to use, so that that you spend more time concentrating on your subject, and enjoying your photography, than you do stressing about and fussing with your equipment. The lightest of the PRO series, the PRO 330 DX makes setting up easy with secure, yet fast speed release leg locks, gearless center column for quick height adjustments, and 3 position adjustable angle legs for easy set up on uneven ground or steps. This adjustable angle feature can also be used to lower the camera for extremely low angle or macro photography out in the field.
Despite it’s featherweight and ease of use, the PRO 330 DX can hold nearly 8 ponds of camera and lens. Perfect for the photographer with a digital camera or lightweight SLR camera and lens. Plus the head is removable, so that a variety of other heads, like one of the SLIK ball heads, can be used in place of the included all-metal 3-way pan head with quick release.
With it’s application of lightweight super alloy, the SLIK PRO 330 DX presents a economical alternative to the more expensive carbon fiber tripods, allowing you to travel light, on any budget.
Maximum Operating Height: 63.0 in. / 1,600 mm
Minimum Operating Height: 20.07 in. / 510 mm
Maximum Center Column Extension: 14.10 in. / 360 mm
Folded Length: 23.6 in. / 600 mm
Weight: 3.46 lbs. / 1,570 grams
Number of Leg Sections: 3
Leg Lock Type: Speed Release Lock
Maximum Load: 8.8 lbs. / 4,000 grams
Warranty: 1 year |
The retail price is around £109.00 but I found a place you could get it online for £60 here: http://www.devoncamera.co.uk/index.cfm/photographic/Products.Details/product_id/83/referer/froogle. Seriously, what do you guys think? Any recommended tripods?

Introducing Sarah
|
|
Canon 400D - 44mm - F5.0 - 1/60 - ISO 100
Introducing my 3 year old daughter Sarah. This picture was only taken tonight (just now). I love taking portraits, but unfortunately, I really don't know how to take detailed, expressionful, soulful images..... yet. Lots more to learn!
PS
1. Mental note - I really have to learn, or at least put more effort into putting borders around my images in the future.
2. I love how Sarah's hood frames her face
3. It's the debut of my new watermark hehehe. It's abit distracting, so I may still change it in the near future.

The Ramadhan month has definitely increased my appetite for posting pictures of food! These pictures (as the date on the picture indicates) was taken absolutely ages ago. Still using the 3 megapixel Sony Cybershot at that time, and foolishly, I forgot to disable the "date" function - argh.
PS
1. I'm not much of a cook, but by a stroke of luck, I made this.
2. Among (many) other things, I love taking pictures of food and would love to learn how to take good food pictures. Would appreciate any tips ...

Borakphoto late entry: Silhouette
These are a series of pictures of "The Ribbon", yet another monument in Coventry. If I'm not mistaken (maybe I am) this monument is to commemorate the textile workers in Coventry.
Ideas for the pictures were inspired by a few seasoned photographers who left suggestions on my blog.

Alynn - yup another early morning photography session

In these series I was just trying out panning - my first ever try. Unfortunately the background at the park was a bit crowded with other people and children.

Around Coventry
|
|
In this picture, I like how the curvy lines on the blue bridge points towards the word "Coventry". Also, look further in the background and you'll see Coventry's skyline, made of the commerce buildings. The buildings are glowing orange as this was taken very early morning just after sunrise.
This gigantic, weird looking curved structures are called the "Whittle Arches" a tribute to Sir Frank Whittle, the inventor of the jet engine. These arches are located outside Coventry's Transport museum. I love how the squiggly lines on the pavement point towards flags that point upwards towards the arches.
This was an extended exposure picture taken of the canal basin. I placed my camera on a book on the ground and set the timer. This picture was taken today before sunrise.
Apparently, by using the canals you could even get to Birmingham from Coventry!
This was taken just outside the main entrance to Coventry University.
Moving farther away from University entrance, one would see this view. I hope you guys are not offended by the cross, but actually Coventry University is located just opposite the Cathedrals which is another main attraction of this city.
In this picture, I love the long shadows created by the harsh early morning light.
This entry is actually partly dedicated to Cibilzsonic as she says she's probably going to Coventry University in the next few years or so. These series of images were taken only this morning all around Coventry and especially the university. Enjoy
Of course, if you want to read the behind the scenes & look at more pictures from this morning go here: http://itchiness.blogspot.com/2006/10/early-morning-photography-adventure.html

Sushi: An Experiment in Manual Focusing and Depth of Field
|
|
I've finally received the 400D and this is my first few steps into the, admittedly daunting, world of DSLR. I'm still in the experimentation stage (it's less than a week since I got the camera) and I'm still trying to figure out the functions and the various modes. What better way to experiment than by taking pictures of food! (One of my favourite subjects, plus it's the fasting month).
As the title suggests, here are the results of my experimentations. I used the smallest apertures I could get in the light and also tried manual focusing (to blurry, disastrous results!)

Seasoned Japanese rice

Vegetables to put inside the sushi

I'm still new to Fotopages, and I'm still figuring out how to customize the template. How do I centre the text and pictures? Could anyone help, pleaseee?

Borakphoto Assignment Completed - Salam Ramadhan: Bound.
|
|
Salams!
First of all, please don't take this image to have blasphemous meanings.
I composited this image using GIMP (what I use instead of Photoshop), from various images around Coventry. The "winged creature" and the devil are actually memorial statues at the cathedral here in Coventry.
Salam Ramadhan everyone, and don't be naughty!

A behind the scenes could be read at my blog: http://itchiness.blogspot.com
